Definition

A dynamic residential proxy is a proxy route that uses residential-style IP addresses and can change the exit IP over time. The change can happen on every request, after a fixed interval, or after a session expires.

The client sends a request to a proxy gateway, and the gateway forwards it through an available residential route. The destination sees the exit IP rather than the client’s direct network address. “Dynamic” describes how that exit route can change; it does not mean that every request must rotate.

Residential routes differ from data-center proxies in network origin and how destinations classify the IP. That difference can make them useful for observing public, localized web experiences, but it does not grant permission to ignore a site’s terms, technical controls, or applicable law.

Rotating sessions

Rotating sessions are useful when requests are independent. A crawler, monitor, or verification job can spread traffic across many IP paths instead of repeating every request from the same address.

Rotation can occur per request or according to provider and session rules. It is a practical choice for independent price checks, search observations, and other jobs where one request does not depend on the identity used by the previous request. Applications still need sensible pacing, retry limits, and error handling.

Sticky sessions

Sticky sessions keep the same exit IP for a short window. This is useful when a workflow needs continuity, such as browsing multiple pages in the same localized context.

A sticky session is temporary rather than permanent. The exit route may change when the session expires or becomes unavailable, so clients should be prepared to restart a flow. The appropriate duration depends on the number of related steps and how long the workflow takes to complete.

Legitimate uses include checking localized public search results, monitoring public product information, verifying regional advertising experiences, and testing how a public website responds from different markets. Each workflow has different requirements for geography, traffic, concurrency, and session length.

How applications connect
